Was reading up on the confrontation between Chaulakyas and Pallavas, in particular the one between Pulakesi II and Narsimhavarman. Fascinating stuff. Pulakesi had defeated Harshavardhana who was the greatest king of North India at the time but later on he himself was defeated and killed by Narsimhavarman.

Pulakesi had earlier defeated Narsimhavarman's father in battle and must have dismissed the young Pallava as just another whippersnapper. Overconfidence.
