.....newspapers in malaysia and Australia report this.

This seems to be a distinct possibility. The timing, ping, direction and now this all match.

The picture of a plane in Andaman is uploaded by a Techie working in Telangana (Hyderabad :-)). The Hindu also reported this:

AND - I this this is a hoax.

But, the maldives story was published in Sydney Herald and the Guardian, among other leading dailies

Today the Malaysian authorities said that Maldives cops went to verify the claims and didn't find the story consistent? Is that the best they can do to verify such a significant claim - just send couple of local cops to poll the  people and decide if the claim is consistent? Especially, when this claim is consistent with the other limited clues that are so far out!
