Looking at indian politics from a distance, party strengths seems to have reached a stable level now with most of the alliances finalized.  Congress is doomed and rahul is likely to be reduced to a group of 100 congressmen. Modi pushed ahead but seems to have peaked at around with 230 max for his NDA. He may pick up some support after elections. Any party with 15 plus MPs will have strong influence. Jaya, mamata, BJD, and Jagan may have some serious influence in the coming years.

Now the good news for Rahul.  No body is expecting anything from this dumb block. Not even his mother. So he cannot fail expectations.  BJP always failed to meet expectations outside of its base in hindi heartland.  They constantly misfire in states like MH.
Congress may surprise BJP. No not by upsetting it but by pulling in few more extra seats than dumbo is given today.

The backup plan for congress is to hope for a weak BJP coalition and wait for it to disintegrate.  However, I was told they were worried about a nuclear blast kind of event that may deepen Modi support by some unusual BJP action.

>>>If Modi neeeds some other party's support to stay in power, he wont be PM for even 6 months. Sonia will pull him down. But he will be much better PM than Dr. Singh in that short duration.

>>>I would have liked Dr. JJ to become the PM. Unfortunately it does not look like the stars are in her favor right now.
