Are you still married?

Received this message from a friend on Facebook today: "Hey! How's it going? Are you still married?"

Why would anyone be so rude and ask such a question? This is not someone I am close to. We were friends when we lived in the same city but I never even went to lunch with her once.

I wrote back: "Why do you ask and are YOU still married?"

Nothing. Silence.

Why would anyone ask me this?

P.S. As a physician, my husband likes his privacy. Besides, we are in such a conservative and poor town that there is no point posting any vacation pictures and inviting envy and jealousy.

Especially not pictures of us in China, Turkey, California, or NYC. They are very anti-Communist/Atheist/Muslim/hippie state full of gays (fruits, nuts, and flakes)/Yankee here.

I am still married, lady, but I'm not going to confirm that. I'll drive you nuts by being mysterious about whether I'm married, how my marriage is going, and where we take our vacations together. I don't need to show Facebook every rose and chocolate truffle my husband buys me for Valentine's Day like you do.

By yur answer she knows you are still married.

I think she was hoping yu would be divorced by now and she could move to your Hillbilly village and hook your hubby.

Why else would she want to know if you are STILL married. (She would have asked if you are a mom yet, if at all).

As a barber, I also like privacy.

It's a fair question. Just like you cribbed here about your married life in the boondocks some time back, you must have similarly cribbed to her at some point (and forgotten about it). If you recall, you had fedexed out all your stuff and were all set to walk out on your hubby....

Get the root canal done ASAP; if you procrastinate about this, then doing a root canal also may not be possible and your tooth would have to be extracted.

Root canal is painless if done by a skilled specialist. Talk to people in your vicinity who've been through the procedure and ask them who their dentist was. I was lucky enough to have as a family friend a dentist who recommended me to a competent root canal specialist ( a dentist who only does root canal work and nothing else).
