Nevertheless, please post your answer. Cheating/googling/consulting everything is allowed in my cryptics sets. That is because, not all the clues here are a result of an immaculate conception either.

Yes. "mot" is French for word, reverse it (TOM), and add BOY = TOMBOY = Spirited chic

Update with hints. Definitions are bolded.

4.    Engaged woman and man talk. (7)
hint1: homophone
hint2: The answers is a synonym for "engaged woman" as a homophone for a synonym of an "enagaged man."

8.    Having cracked finally, unruly male dog, still best in show. (4, 8 )
hint1: "finally" is the last letter
hint2: "unruly" is an anagram indicator.
hint3: "Having" is a container (w-in-w) indicator.

9.    Study a beetle. (6)
hint1: Double Definition (so both words are bolded)
hint2: look for a particular type of beetle.

GOLD MEDALIST

d (finally of cracked) + male + dog + still = gold medalist

(google cheat, however there it was gold medallist)

GOLD MEDALIST

male + dog + still
Correct, but "gold medalist" has two "d"s, and "male+dog+still" has only one "d."

However, I would explain it as:

“D” is the final letter of "cracked."
The anagram of "male dog still," will have "D" inserted inside.
Then it becomes GOLD MEDALLIST (i.e, an alternate spelling for MEDALIST should be used).
But that makes my letter count wrong. It should've been (4,9)
So you win!
