Question on Krishna waters
If Telangana diverts water to produce power at Srisailam. doesn't that water show up in the tailwaters and back in the Krishna stream again and flow in to AP? Don't understand the technical problem. Don't we do it in Kashmir. That is, build dams on northern Rivers alloted to Pakistan, but only for power production, and the tail waters still go into Pakistan.

The problem as I understand is to maintain water level srisailam. The min levels for power production was based on overall water usage requirements.

Re: Question on Krishna waters
The stored water helps water flow to Rayalaseema (so, a minimum storage level is determined and any water flow or power generation has to have permission from the Krishna river committee). The released water, if too much, can create problems for Krishna delta and is wasted if allowed to flow to Bay of Bengal.indophile wrote:If Telangana diverts water to produce power at Srisailam. doesn't that water show up in the tailwaters and back in the Krishna stream again and flow in to AP? As I understand from the recent news, Water can be released to Rayalaseema/telugu ganga via the pothireddypadu project only if the level in Srisailam project is above 850 ft or so. If the level goes below that, Seema cannot get any water for even drinking purpose in the coming summer.
Secondly, Nagarjuna sagar is almost full and water cannot be stored at pulichintala because the rehabiliation of villages that will get submerged if more than 9 TMC water is stored there. So , all that water will be going straight to sea.
