In 1965, Tamil Nadu students agitated against Hindi imposition. Stones
were thrown on police. Buses were destroyed. Governmemt offices
attacked. Foreign army and police were brought into Tamil Nadu from
other states to control it. Protests were brutally suppressed in less than 3
weeks. During the last week over 5 dozen unarmed protesters were
gunned down to death and numerous others injured.

In 2014, Hindian students protested demanding that a English paper for
the IAS preliminary exam be removed because it is discriminatory while
at the same time non-Hindi students have to write all exams (social
science, etc) in English. Stones were thrown on police. Buses were
destroyed. Governmemt offices attacked. No shootings, no deaths, no
injuries. Orders were issued to remove the English paper. Now Hindians
can pa ss IAS preliminary exam without knowing English. Minimum
requirement for IAS is bechelor degree. The English paper was set at 10-
th grade level (yes, that was the requirement.) Even that requirement
was removed but non-Hindi studejts have to write all exams in
English. How many bright non-Hindi students lost their chance for IAS
because of this language apartheid?
