The irony of it was all that both parties couldn't understand each other. The cab driver could  only speak Kannada and the duo on a scooter didn't understand the local language. A crowd watching the drama did not bother to bridge the language gap. It, instead, joined the cabbie in attacking the two men.

this sentence can be read in several ways -

- three northindians together;
- three guys on a scooter;
- a northindian (or two max.) on a two wheeler.

i think all three except they guy in in the middle result in the fall of a civilization -- is that the correct interpretation ms menon?

Your third reading is faulty. My sentence is a union of the first two. Three guys on a scooter is bad enough. Those three being Northindian makes it worse.
