MMS and his govt was abused by every political entity including his own congress party for raising Petrol price. Aam Aadmi is mad at the govt. But this is one aspect MMS is right and should be supported. Petrol subsidies were draining Indian budget dry. Those subsidies form largest item of Indian budget deficits. However such serious analysis is not good politics and MMS is getting savaged for doing the right thing.

MMS also clarified that he is not about to declare T state any time soon. While he did not close the door on T state, he mentioned the unrest in other parts of state as the primary reason. The contradiction between T desire and Andhra reluctance is not likely to be resolved any time soon. A short term T flare up and a dousing of flames (buying leders, some crushing of movements, some loss of life and who knows what) may follow. AP is doomed for another 6 months to an year of suspended growth.

he better do something about removing diesel subsidies for non-commercial diesel cars.

recently i read that nearly 30% (or more) of diesel consumption in India is by cars. Why do these guys need govt. subsidized diesel?

Diesel subsidies were probably set up for commercial lorry type vehicles. But Mercedes diesel cars were ripping off the subsidy. I read somewhere that Petrol subsidies could derail Indian growth machine. However In Indian politics blunt cuts are easy to implement than well directed narrow cuts that require Govt management.
