Radical Islamic terrorists are not deterred by gun control laws. The San Bernardino terrorist attack wasn’t stopped by California’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. The gun ban in Brussels didn’t prevent the terrorist attack there. And France’s strict gun control didn’t stop the two attacks in Paris, committed with fully-automatic rifles and grenades.

I have a suggestion for them what to do with their statement. Crumple it up neatly, put it inside the muzzle of their favorite weapon, and shoot it up their bung hole.

This is a forward:

"More guns = more safety"

With the PLETHORA of reasons someone with an actual education in Threat Assessment can give you to explain why this is OUTRAGEOUSLY stupid, I'll go with this one:

When discussing this statement, you have to consider the FACT that (and it is especially true in this case) ubiquity directly correlates to causality. If we're to look at this in terms of the ever popular "guns don't kill people, people kill people", people are, by all statistical and empirical evidence, violent and deadly in nature and a firearm is merely an instrument or vessel through which they can express this violent nature, built SOLELY to express this nature. When one makes the statement above, they are ONLY addressing an extreme:

-if a crazed gunman charges into a crowded public place, more armed people serve either as a deterrent to an impending attack or an immediate avenue of defense or reciprocated engagement in said attack.

Contrary to what hysterical media or our own paranoia suggests after these things happen, you have a VERY low chance of ever being caught in a mass shooting or other widescale act of violence/terror. This is where the REAL issue presents itself: what happens to everyday, more prevalent forms of otherwise non-violent/non-life threatening confrontation in a world where irrational anger and emotion is now compounded with widespread gun possession?

When you have an incident of road rage or a very upset customer or some guy is hitting on your girlfriend or a bar fight, it always sits in the back of your head that the other person might be armed or crazy, but what happens when you know for a FACT that they are? "That might make the other person stand down" isn't a bad assumption to make, but are you willing to bet your life on it? In a world where most confrontation is usually settled with a restrained yelling match, or at worst, a brief fistfight which tends to end after one person succumbs to a hard punch or is broken up by bystanders or police, to welcome the ubiquity of gun ownership and carrying is to evolve the level of violence reached in these everyday occurrences. It is a FACT that the VAST majority of gun owners haven't been properly trained in threat assessment, non-violent conflict resolution, and offensive/defensive weapons engagement. Most people THINK they have what it takes to be a hero, but defensive maneuvering and counter engagement whilst having bullets flying at you is a TAD bit different than the weekend beer bottle shooting most gun owners certify themselves as badasses for doing.

Given that, when you take an already volatile situation and/or environment (the best example of a ubiquitous one being an escalating argument between two drunkards in a bar) and enthusiastically add a facilitator and magnifier of violence (a gun) into the equation, you do not REDUCE the probability of a mass shooting, you INCREASE not only the occurrences, but also the PARTICIPANTS, which increases CASUALTIES, both active shooters and innocent bystanders.

I understand why people feel the way they do and I understand that people are scared bc a tragedy like a mass shooting or terrorist attack takes power and control away from us for our own peace of mind and well-being. HOWEVER, life isn't the movies and no one becomes a professional soldier or vigilante just bc they own a gun. Not everyone needs nor DESERVES the right to own a gun.

If you truly want to be a responsible, vigilant carrier of a firearm, prove it. Educate yourself on the ins and outs of gun ownership, maintenence, safety, and operation. Take a certified course on offensive and defensive tactical urban combat. Practice fast unholstering, handling, dynamic reloads, maneuvering, covering and support, target acquisition, etc. If that's too much for you to do, you aren't helping anybody, you're a liability.

must be really nice to write nonsense without the burden of facts, statistical evidence etc. even better -- cut off funding for folks who want to study such things. still better, ban such studies.
