mitty boy's chances look bleaker by the day. almost all rich guys have shady offshore money parking deals but it could be a handicap even for a repub candidate hopeful. rick santorum's looking better and better, especially with the evangelicals casting their lot with him.

DUT,

I just posted about the SC primary in another thread.

Will so many breaking stories in the news (your Gov..coming home home:), Newt's wife #2 - who seems to be a Goddess of fury unloading on him..and of course Mitt and his issues now (although he is still the front runner -and is the presumed nominee).. at least, it's not so dull for the next few days!

why is this suddenly becoming an issue? capital gains tax rates have always been lower than ordinary income. isn't that what the republicans have lectured us about always? we poor folks who work for a living should have our ordinary income taxed at higher rates than job-creating, economy-improving investment income; isn't that what the republican blue bloods have told us? why the sudden change of heart and taking up the cudgels for dirty stinky occupiers?

This had to happen. It will be impossible to find a private equity multimillionaire who doesn't have money in tax havens. Just like he likes being able to fire people and corporations and people too, Romney likes his tax havens -- that's just par for the course when you are looking at an ex-CEO. He may not have positions of conviction on healthcare, abortion rights, gay rights, etc., but it's a fair assumption that he has strong positions on the value of tax havens. If GOP voters now move away from him, it is because they don't know what is par for the course in business.

i love the tax debate by the way. it exposes the hypocrisy of the republicans in an oh-so-delicious way, almost to the point of arousal. and i hope the really poor folks who vote for them will finally wake up and smell the coffee. religion is the drug that the rich republicans have been using to get their votes and have their own way with taxes. loving it.

You are so perceptive DUT!

I would have included a smile..but, since you are much too serious and don't care much for bubbly and effervescent..will not push it.

Last year Obama was making speeches about "hedge fund millionaires" paying lower taxes than ordinary Americans. He can now put a human face on that issue -- Romney's face. This is going to be fun, if the GOP still bites its lip and nominates him.

1) who lectured who? this isnt abt his capital gains rate vs ordinary income. it's abt hiding money overseas in questionable places when attempting to run for public office.

2) who suffered a sudden change of heart? stinky wall street occupiers are just that but there's such a thing as transparency of public officials.

3) you must think bleeding heart liberals dont avail of all the tax saving schemes or if you buy that dem supporters are all poor intellectuals and blue collar workers paying up more than their share of taxes.

and class envy + promise of free loading on the wealthy fat cats is the drug that dems have been using since 30s to get votes. you see much difference between the two?

i've never said the dems are blameless. i have a separate litany of complaints about them especially our local MA establishment dems. we can certainly discuss that.

but my point is if romney has not done anything illegal, whining about all the things he does to pay less taxes is the height of hypocrisy especially when the whining is done by the people who are responsible for legislating the tax laws which enable him to do so.

except now the republicans have two weapons in their arsenal -- religion and whining about the rich!

I guess with Wife#2 going against Gangrenich, Santorum is the next target.

There was an article in NYT (or someone posted here) last week that the entire Santorum clan and ancestors in Italy are hardcore commies, and they were appalled and ashamed that their 2nd cousin is such an evilangelical right winger.

So, I guess if the media and Romney "start spreading the news" Santorum may get into trouble as well. May be they should look at his Italian and Scicilian connection. After all, he is from a state that gave Edwards and the Internet Romeo, and not to mention the rumors about Nikki.

in future whenever the republicans talk about class envy card played by the dems, they'll be reminded about the 2012 primaries. it's a potent weapon at least for a while until americans' attention wanders.

Gingrich takes credit for "the largest capital gains tax cut in history" that created this situation.

After the 1986 tax reform that removed many loopholes, it was people like Gingrich who systematically brought back all those goodies for the millionaires into the tax code.

and LOLu about the youtube video showing gingrich's credit-taking.
and i am overjoyed that the debate about taxes (about fucking time we talked about it rather than who stuck his gherkin in which warm place) is not going to die down anytime soon. it's tax season and after that obama won't let it die down until the campaign season is over. if he gets a second term you can be sure tax reform is a coming.
