banana in the hair
so i was working from home today, minding my own business, but checking FB once in while, when a link popped up with a picture. It had frizzy hair in the left and smooth hair on the right, with the caption 'home remedies for frizz-free hair'. One of the remedies was a banana mask. Something I had never tried before.
So I thought, ok. I have banana at home that are almost ripe. I am yet to take a shower, and I have to go out for dinner in p'ton tonight. So let's do it. I read the instructions. Take half a banana and mash it up. Make sure there are no lumps. Add oil for the base. Apply to hair and keep for 30 minutes. Then shampoo.
Now. the phrase 'make sure there are no lumps' did worry me a little, but i said no big deal ji, i will mash it properly. So I ate half the banana. Mashed the other half. Added coconut oil. Mashed more. Thought it won't be enough for my hair, wasn't in the mood to eat another half-banana, so added yogurt. Applied the mix to my hair. It covered only half my hair, but by now I was too messy to go make another bowl, so i just rubbed it more and tied it up and covered it with a plastic cap. Then i also put a mask on my face. And went to shower 30-40 minutes later.
Used a mild shampoo first. Felt the hair were still oily, so used another stronger shampoo. Now some parts felt rough and other parts felt oily. Hair were completely tangled. Brushing it would be a nightmare. So decided to use a conditioner. Ok, now it was a bit better coz i could atleast run my finger through my hair smoothly. Still oily, but my fingers were pruning by now, so I got out.
Came out with a towel nicely wrapped around the hair as i proceeded to moisturize etc... then began brushing the hair. Found a white lump, then 2, then a lot more. Every time i put brush in the hair, more would stick out. Looked at the brush. It was covered entirely with banana pulp. What the bledy heck. I shampooed twice and conditioned. Why didn't any frikking banana come out!
Tried cleaning the brush. No luck. Manually removed the lumps from the hair, whatever I could spot. But ugh. Hair still feeling sticky now. But no way I am stepping in the shower again. So now, I will be going out on a fancy dinner with sticky hair that still smell of banana! Just hoping no one tries to smell my hair tonight. To add cherry to the cake. I have two gigantic pimples on my face.
tonight is looking to get lovelier and lovelier.

Re: banana in the hair
so ok, 3 years from now, when I would have forgotten all about this, a follow up post is good to remind the full story... hair luckily was not as sticky as i was fearing, once they began drying up. The parts of my hair that are very frizzy stayed frizzy, but the rest of it had a little shine to it. I was able to apply products and blow dry some of the frizz out while hair was still a little damp. Whether it was this, or it's just my hair cut these days, I had crazy volume (think smooth afro), but I still kept my hair down for the most of the night, tying them up a ponytail only if it annoyed me. The crazy snow canceled our dinner plans, and I had to drive son n friend to a movie for a pre-booked show coz his dad was stuck in the city. but we made the most of it by chilling while son was in the movie. All that cold and yogurt gave me a headache, so i popped in a mortrin with tea before dinner. When explained, i got the compliment that my hair was looking good. So yeah, I guess worth all that trouble.
