Comment #2 (on 27th Oct. 2019 in Sulekha blog "Hamster on wheel (poetry)" by Geeta Kashyap: http://creative.sulekha.com/hamster-on-wheel-poetry_637684_blog):

After watching the videos (a) https://youtu.be/rym865DWWrI and (b) https://youtu.be/a5-Dm68-PEw without actually seeing the real ancient structures and temples, my explanations are as given below.

(a) Regarding Ravana supposedly shown using a flying machine "A 1200 Year Old Vimana - Alien Flying Machine?", it seems Ravana probably is shown riding a small horse driven single-row wheeled chariot (vimana) which needs to be secured around Ravana by strapping around him for balance and to hold on during a quick escape (such as while kidnapping Sita from her hermitage).

In addition, the carving shows the bird Jatayu (perhaps Sita's large pet in the class of ostrich or emu) attacking Ravana to save its owner Sita from kidnapping by Ravana. All this is happening in the stone carving near the ground with vimana as a horse-pulled single row wheeled cart / chariot, and not necessarily by using a mid-air flying modern jet backpack.

(b) Regarding the other question "The Secret Holes Of Vittala Temple,Hampi-WHY Were They Drilled?", I think several small holes along the circumference at different levels of temple structure were probably intended to drain the rainwater quickly and in small streams. It probably was to avoid rainwater from stagnating (piling up) atop the stone structure or rainwater moving down in just a few places in excessive quantities in the case of no holes or only a small number of large holes, which could over time result in a damage to the structure at and near water outlets.
