I had a number of colleagues from Australia during one of my post-doc assignments in Canada in late 1970s, including an exchange scientist (a Ph.D.) on leave from a senior post in the mining industry in interior Australia. I found these guys as extremely hard working, fast, results oriented and with a hands on approach in doing things. They showed no hesitation in getting on to the business quickly if necessary, no matter how trivial and unimportant the task might seem according to their seniority and educational level.
