Sulekha CH

I am reverting back to Sulekha CH once the bugs have been fixed. The primary reason for this is that people like sandilya, seva, and Luke Warmus will never join this new forum and a CH type discussion is not quite the same without them. I encourage everyone here to revert back to the old Sulekha CH once the bugs in the CH software have been fixed.

Why would they not come here? We are testing this forum right now. There is also another forum we want to test: http://www.reddit.com/r/Coffeehouse/

The moderator on that other forum has extremely limited powers and can't see/modify any poster's private information.

Why do you think they won't join. If it is because of privacy issues or who the moderator is, then that can be fixed.

CH will never be fixed IMHO.

the whole point is to be able to have discussions, share stuff w/o being stifled like it was happening there... was even willing to ignore the ads, spams, and stalking.... once that is fixed, and improves some of its features, than why no sulekha. sure.. untill then, will keep testing other options.

I have a lot of confidence in Satya Prabhakar. If this issue comes to his attention i am sure he'll get the CH software fixed.

i am sure if CH gets fixed.. all who are here will be back there. But it has to happen soon ..like within two days or so.

The "thread killing" was just the last straw that broke the camel's back. Over the years, CH has gotten progressively worse. While forum technology has gotten better and better elsewhere, Sulekha took away the ability to post pictures, emoticons and videos; introduced additional errors in the process of fixing bugs (e.g. if your post fails for any reason, your window is dead because they disable it after submitting); and started spamming their own site regularly.

I don't have any doubt that Satya is a good businessman; he has been telling us over the years that he doesn't want to serve us. We have been steadfastly ignoring that message and subjecting ourselves to ever greater discomfort. For what? The community of posters that had come together on CH, and the open atmosphere of freewheeling conversation without censorship.

I think we should go back to Sulekha, but only if they do the following:

Make it impossible to kill threads
Allow posting of videos and images
Allow posting in Indian languages in Unicode
Stop spamming their own site under the garb of posting news
Allow posters to edit their posts

I am not even talking about the really fancy and advanced features this forum has like posting from a mobile phone, etc. Just the basic stuff -- they need to get it right, or I don't see why we should all go back.

Good points. I sort of understand why they are not allowing posting of videos and images. The reason for this is that some CH posters started posting pornographic pictures and videos in their CH posts. I recall Sara Boji complaining about this to the effect that he had once opened a post containing a pornographic picture when his manager was around in the vicinity.

If removing video and image features was a temporary measure to cool passions and let better sense prevail, I could hold my nose and tolerate the restrictions for a while. But it became the new normal. If I remember right, Sulekha initially indicated that it was a temporary thing as they looked into solutions, but never came up with a solution.
