India plans to send a spacecraft to Mars next year on a scientific mission critics say shows the governing party's skewed priorities when people lack electricity and safe drinking water.

I guess critics of the US space program would argue that the money is better spent on poverty alleviation within the US. What's good for the goose and all that.

No need. India is competing with China for prestige, tech development, and respect among the SE Chinku-hating countries.

All space technologies - in fact any technology - are interchangeable and their use is limited only by the imagination of the innovators. Material, software technology, rockets, wireless and radio technologies, instrumentation and manufacturing technologies will benefit.

Good Omens: Married woman, prostitute, two brahmins, a soodra with a cane, auspicious music, fruits, flowers, umbrella, fan, horse, elephant, bull, filled earthen pot, sugarcane, cooked rice, milk, yogurt, red meat, a pot filled with arrack, a fire with no smoke, honey, cool cotton clothes, akshatas (sacred rice used for blessing), veena, mridangam, conch, newly married couple, the sound of a bell, chnats of victory, auspicious things like agarbatti, camphor, betel leaves, jaggery, etc., a gentle cool headwind zephyr.

I like the auspicious music omen. Easily workable.
