25 years ago this movie came out and took the nation by storm. I was living in Madurai at that time and the only other Hindi movie that opened in theaters before this was Sholay Laughing

Went with my parents and they loved it.

Wow 25 years.

1- We watched on video. I was in 9th. First 10 minutes, the uncles and aunts of Amir-juhi died. Then the moment they showed Amir and juhi, dad goes - movie's name is qayamat se qayamat tak. First q was the elders dying, next q will be these two dying. Then he walked out. He hates tragedies. So ya... But sis and I watched it spellbound anyway.

2- XB-1 had tshirts like Amir, backpack like Amir and a Kawasaki like Amir. In other words, I FELL for him. Oh, and whenever I went on the terrace and sang 'ae mere hamsafar, Ek tera intezar', he would somehow show up. No, no one could hear me singing. I just took it as destiny saying we should be together.

i never watched the movie that time. Watched it much later :-) enjoyed one song immensly. Was asked to sing that repeatedly:-) love makes one does really silly stuff.....

I didn't watch it growing up and now I love the reactions I get when I tell people that I haven't seen it. My wife hasn't watched it either.

LOL! I have not seen sholay as well. QSQT, i was told that it was a requirement of some sorts then:-) boy, i was loserish and in love at that time.....

Sholay dialogues were translated into Sanskrit to make it interesting for kids to learn the language. Here is a sample:

We had audio tapes of Sholay at home for so many years. My dad was a huge fan of AB. At one point, I knew every single dialogue in the movie and could rattle it off.

We had SilSila tapes as well, and I remember listening to 'main aur meri tanhai' over and over again and thinking AB sounded so sexy. I just tried watching it, and couldn't get past 30 secs.

So then, South Indians would rather see Ben Hur before an iconic Bollywood movie because of the language barrier? Then again, some of you have watched iconic movies in French, Chinese and Jibberish, so there gotta be some other reason. What is it?

Three movies stand out as the most romantic movies of the 80s which swept the teens (at least girls) off their feet: Love Story, Hero and QSQT. The love shown in those movies was so pure and innocent. Those were the days! sigh!

Pliss not to discount all the Jeetendra Sridevi Jaya Prada movies. Otherwise 80s was a horrible decade for Hindi movies. Also coz of tv and vidoes in small towns, their market went down.

Jeetendra, sridevi and jaya prada movies were are fine, but they were not teenage sensations. oh btw, Shah Rukh was introduced in the teleserial Fauji and had all the girls gasping and drooling for him. Yours truly was one of them, unfortunately. Puke!

LOL...the movie is like this woman i work with who keeps saying "people, please come out, please come out" in random design meetings. Everyone in my group sorta knows that she is talking about "ideas" but i have seen the look on some new member's face when they hear it for the first time.

I was in school elementary school by then and I did watch that movie...my cousin sisters and their friends were all hyped with that movie and watched it again and again. I don't remember anything about the movie. May be it's time to catch up over this weekend...or forget it!

i wasn't old enough to appreciate such movies when this movie was released on tape. i watched it only because some elder cousins made it sound like the best thing known to mankind since sliced bread.
