Two underlying assumptions:

1. That all those registering online are of same caliber (Stanford and Hardvard president???? Duhhh... their students dont need anything to learn themselves) - determination, intelligence, curiosity, and perseverance.

2. All those registering are ethical.

3. There will not be competing online courses and for-profit courses that dumb down the syllabus and content.

Already, many schools are doing away with Masters and Bachelor students go straight to PhD. They take 1 year to learn about research. So after PhD many end up doing Post-doc. The net results is the same. The whole system is being dumb down across the board and vertically. 12th grader reads at 8th grade level, BS degree holder hardly knows calc (..Wink professional societies are looking for 6 yr college degrees to get license, etc..etc..

Now there will be another dimension added - online degrees... yeah rite... Perhaps, I will pass my GED and get a degree from Harvard (may be in that fake field called Administration).
