TSLA
The volatility in this stock is crazy. I bought at 58 about two weeks ago and sold two days ago at 90. Then I noticed a drop to 82 and picked up some and put in a limit sell at 90. The sell order executed today. That's a neat 10% in 2 days. It closed at 94 today, but I put in another limit buy at 80 -- am considering upping that to 85. I think it's quite likely to drop to the 80-85 range soon, and I think it's also likely to post big gains on the next piece of good news, whatever little good news. I am hoping for a couple of such 10+% swings in the next several weeks.
I know this is rather risky, and I am playing with it recognizing that I can lose half of what I put in if the stock tanks quickly, but it is too tempting to stand by with this kind of movement.
Anybody else playing the wild swings of this stock?

It's a short squeeze melt up, who knows where it might end up. I put in a buy for 20 shares(don't laugh) at85 just to some skin in the game but am thinking its a good buy at 40 so put in a larger buy order at that price. Solar city, tesla etc great plays on energy theme, maybe for this decade..am thinking additive Mfng, energy are the themes for this decade, just like last decade was social media, maturation of the web and smartphones/tablets.
Ps: too late to get into dxj? It's looking good with 60% swing this year..

Japan is getting a lot of good press, but I am not sure of the long term. An ageing population does not bode well for competitiveness and innovation. I won't play long-term on Japan. I did play a Japanese equity ETF just after the Fukushima disaster: decent 5-10% returns over a few days each time.
I think energy makes for a really good play. If TSLA goes to 40, I will buy some more. I am also intrigued by construction / real estate -- I think there's potential there as we get out of the slump, but I may be too late.
Looked at AMD the other day -- didn't know they were up 60+% in a few months! I thought the personal / business computer business was dying, with cloud and tablets. Need to understand what's driving the growth.

Re: TSLA
Japan trade is all about their central bankers getting the religion and opening the cash spigot just as America is about to start its mop up operation. It's NOT a long term play, just a secular reversal of trend...who knows where it might end.
Regarding amd, again it's a play on dead cat bounce...at worst they'll be acquired by Hp or dell or silver lake or one of those guys so that puts a floor under the stock you can safely trade on.
Other area that pundits are recommending is materials...am watching fcx to pickup around 28 or so..same with clf..watching for it to hit 17 or so

And TSLA is down 3% today. Yesterday it was up 10% on news of a convertible bond sale; today is down on news of increase in the size of that offering from $525 to $600 million. This is a wild ride indeed -- and I hope I get to get on it at 80 today/Monday.

solar city is up 17% again today. solar stocks are on fire - watch this microcap RSOL - up 65% just today on extremely high volume. it's a total gamble but interesting to watch solar stocks behave so wildly

These stocks are good for short-term - even extremely short-term. One can never say when the clouds will cover the sun.

It is up 14% today, and closed at 111. I had a buy at 84 that didn't execute -- the lowest point it touched was 85 just three trading days ago. If only I had picked 85, I would have had 30% return.

Re: TSLA
They have a good product...are they good on execution? do they have a battle-tested team with a strategy to execute? ....blah blah about battlefields littered with generals....that faltered ...etc. insert here.
of course, if you are a swing trader, none of the above applies.

Yeah, I am definitely not a long-term player in this stock. I am just trying to play the swings which are really big on this one and a bunch of solar stocks.
