Hegde, Karnataka Lok ayukta, said something interesting in response to Man mohan singh's criticism of Civil society as unelected force in a democracy.

Read the above article for full quotes. Hegde said voters voted elected reps but did not give them power of attorney to do any thing they like. As citizens voters retain the right to question elected reps and govt.

Man Mohan singh's bureaucratic criticism of civil society is meaning less. People will question govt or elected reps or govt or any body they feel responsible if they are un happy about country's state of affairs.

Indian PM has shown no enthusiasm to identify culprits in 2G or CWG or any other corrupt case. He was backing them till the last minute possible and yet claim to be honest. he stooped as low as any other politician to save his own chair. He can claim personal integrity but too much smells all around him.

>>>> I haven't read the article ( will do that later today), but I agree in general with this. Conceding of this right to question is what leads to corruption and capricious behavior on the part of the lawmakers. Somehow, kicking them out in the next election does not seem to be enough of a safeguard.

When elected reps and so called persons with integrity shield corrupt people by delaying tactics and obfuscation, situation allows characters like Ramdev to emerge on scene. While his credentials are highly questionable, it is Man mohan who gave him a high profile by holding negotiations and sending 4 cabinet ministers to meet with him. Then when he became politically inconvenient, Man mohan singh resorted to high handed behaviour of police action.

Courts may back off from severe criticism but the action on Ramdev was imprudent for Congress's image and Man Mohan singh's image. Sensible people can see it as strike breaking rather than as a law and order issue.
