How to bring the govt. to its knees in India? A very simple formula. Just raise the onion prices beyond a poor man's affordability. No amount of coaxing and cajoling, reservations, wining/dining, and bribing the voter works, if onions are thrown beyond the reach of common man. AP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Orissa produce 90% of onions in India. They should use that leverage in elections, at least in the short term, i.e., until other states pick up onion production.
