now this is a serious post and not the one targeted at uppili for his views on Bombay Mafia.

seriously, what's going on? srikanth and his gang from chennai is giving several chances to players from chennai super kings - raina, badrinath, mukund, ashwin, m vijay and w saha. and the same gang also selected srikanth's son in some other squad which, although insignificant, clearly indicates how things are working.

ashwin is the only guy who deserves more chances because he is by far better than harbhajan singh and has done well in ODIs. he should be given a place in tests. badrinath has a solid domestic record so his selections were also justified. but what about others?

is raina a test material? he might have some scored some runs in tests, but is his technique suitable for away tests? mukund? does he have as solid a record as some others (a rahane, for example)? m vijay? he did well against AUS but is he consistent and does he have a technique to succeed at non-subcontinent wickets? what was the basis for his selection in the first place? is saha better than p patel?

the selection committee is clearly targeting CSK brand value, nothing else.

Support staff is all Mumbai-centric, AB!
Conspiracy? zuck the zhat?! Very Happy

Fitness trainer: Ramji Srinivasan (Mumbai Indians)
Physiotherapist: Nitin Patel (Mumbai Indians)
Performance analyst: C.K.M. Dhananjai (Mumbai Indians)

Plus the Masseur Mane kaka is a maratha! Smile

PS: On a serious note - I agree that with the holes you poked in the selection process...th ebody language of th eplayers was bad from Day 2 itself. We need some infusion - maybe an idea from way left field...like why not Murali Karthik? He plays there most of the year and knows the conditions well enough...

MBE, i confess i did not know about MI support staff's overwhelming presence in the indian setup. i knew about Mane Kaka but not others. however, i was targeting the selection committee which is influenced by Srikanth and Srinivasan.

and Madras Mafia continues its evil ways. suresh raina, that utter useless POS, gets yet another chance only because he plays for Chennai Super Kings. here's what raina has done in his last three outings -

0, 78, 12, 1, 4, 10.

now one may say that he has scored a ton in his first match and that he has an average of 32 and that's not bad. but then dive deeper and see his stats against SA in the only test he played there.

1, 5

he can score in jaipur, gwalior, chennai, kandy, kanpur, delhi, guwahati, madgaon, vizag, kochi, baroda, ahemdabad, colombo and dhaka, but can this player score at Lord's, The Oval, MCG, WACA, SCG, Durban and J'berg?

why don't they let him hoick in IPL on chepauk and chinnaswamy and leave this test business to someone like Ajinkya Rahane?

dhobi, madras mafia's leader on the field, has now asked Raina to bowl. if raina takes a wicket, he will play for the next two years. raina bowls at The Oval in the first session of a game. not only is dhobi bankrupt of ideas, he is also desperate for his CSK-buddy.

Srikanth was some sort of brand ambassador for Chennai Super Kings IIRC. In the first season of IPL he was seen in the stands wearing a CSK T-shirt and jumping up and down like a cheerleader. If he is still employed by the CSK org that is a serious conflict of interest.

yes, srikanth was seen wearing yellow last season. and i think i saw him in yellow this season as well. even srinivasan has a conflict of interest and is set to become the next BCCI president.

on a related note, do please read this piece on RP singh. when most thought he was RIP singh, he was asked to travel to ENG. the article guesses why.

and his (RP Singh's) presence in the playing XI, ahead of the regular squad member Munaf Patel, has put a question mark on the team management’s judgement. Giving RP the new ball was just another one of Dhoni’s many puzzling decisions of the tour.

It took only one ball to lay bare India’s hopelessness. RP began with one way down the leg side, which reached Dhoni’s gloves after bouncing a couple of times.

Tongues have started to wag about RP’s proximity to the skipper — he was one of the few who attended Dhoni’s wedding — and there are suggestions that Dhoni pulled his weight to get his mate in.

How and why do you expect the Indian cricket world alone to be free from corruption? Isn't there money involved in circket in India?

In today's India, where there is money to be made there will be corruption.

It is easy to kick when one is down. Dhoni was looking for some miracle to happen, and probably was hoping RP of '07 would show up.

but RIP singh has not had any match practice for months. munaf patel was with the team and he was not played. what is the rationale behind that?
