If govt owned forest land has to be used to build the capital for AP, the state govt has to pay compensation to the environmental ministry. Apparently, government's forest land is cheaper near Mangalagiri (8 lakhs for hectare) than near Eastern ghats (11 lakhs).

So, Mangalagiri-Tadepalli region (between Guntur and Vijayawada) for the capital?

What about Amaravati?

Here is an article titled Andhra Rajadhani (in two parts) by MBS Prasad on Vijayawada and surroundings for Andhra capital.

Amaravati?  Kothapalli-Pulichintala area apparently has a lot of govt. land. Also, the Guntur-Amaravati road has two forest-areas owned by the govt.  Even Tadepalli forest land is close to Amaravati. Interestingly, KCR (vastu expert!) suggested to CBN that Amaravati is the most vastu compliant capital for AP!!!  The land around Amaravati is probably not any more expensive than the forest areas near Mangalagiri. No matter where they settle in these areas, they can still call the capital Amaravati. SmArtha's e-govt idea seems to be the best (now that CBN is creating a network for the whole state and employees can stay in a rural area and do their work).
