The manufacturing sector remains the biggest woe for the Indian economy, registering a growth rate of just 0.1 per cent in the second quarter. This, along with some other sectors, led to the slowing down of the economy to 5.3 per cent in the second quarter of July-September 2014. What also slowed down the GDP was agriculture (3.2 per cent) and mining, which registered a mere 1.9 per cent growth in the quarter.

While growth was higher than most analysts expected it to be, and better than the same quarter last year (5.2 per cent), it was slower than the previous quarter’s 5.7 per cent.
