Mumbai college changes its ways

Following all the unwanted attention after the return of its student Arif Majeed from a stint with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Panvel's Kalsekar Polytechnic has decided to overhaul its image, sharpening focus on academics and toning down on-campus religious activities.
In the first and the most visible change, the college has done away with the tradition of students praying five times between lectures in an open ground. Now, namaz is offered only once and that too in a basement classroom. While earlier all five prayers were mandatory for all students, there is no such rule now.
The college principal Imran Inamdar, who was interrogated by intelligence agencies after it emerged that Arif was part of a group of 40 radicalised students, has resigned.
A fortnight back, Anjuman Islam trustees addressed all students of the college in the presence of staff and warned them of the dangers of falling to the radicals' propaganda. The trustees also said it was unfortunate that hundreds of students were paying for the mistake of just one student.
.....
The college, in an attempt to prevent outsiders from entering the campus, has begun locking the gates of the institution once lectures start in the morning. The gates are opened only during the recess and then shut again for the rest of day.
Teachers have been instructed to observe students' behaviour closely and report anything suspicious to their seniors. The college's internet connections have been secured and henceforth will be monitored by the staff.
An official of the college, who did not wish to be identified, said: "Teachers have been asked to pay attention to whether their students are attending classes regularly. If a student is not regular, same should be communicated to his family."

Why Doc, why does it make you happy? Mumbai is just a corrupted, Koli version of Bom Baim (Good Bay in Portuguese). What is so sacred about that corruption?

C'mon Doc, the temple is of 18th century vintage. Bom Baim's earliest mention is in the early 1500s. The gramdevta of Bom Baim became Mumbadevi.
