hindu muslim synthesis in tamil nadu is directly related to the short duration of muslim rule in tamil nadu ( the madurai sultanate was destroyed by the vijaynagar empire ) compared to other regions of india , and the hindus' lack of bitter memories of muslim rule compared to other regions of india .

also the relatively less percentage of muslims in tamil nadu ( only 6 percent of tamil nadu's population are muslims ) is mightly helpful in reducing hindu muslim tensions .

The Vijaynagar kingdom precedes the kingdom and rule of the Nawabs of Arcot. The Nawabs are said to have done a good job in fostering H-M synthesis in TN. They gave funding to various temples in TN. On important festivals the Kapaleeshwara temple invites the current Nawab of Arcot to be the Chief Guest. Besides giving funding to this temple the Nawabs had also donated land for the construction of the huge temple tank of the Kapaleeshwara. The Nawabs also gave funding to the Parathasarathi temple. Kapaleeshwara is the most famous Shiva temple in Chennai and Parathasarathi the most famous Krishna/Vishnu temple.

yes , but overall muslim rule over TN was of short duration . and that helps---mightily .
