Fascinating: Elephants get cancer very rarely
....Only 4% of them get cancer compared to 25% of humans...

They live in forests and eat organic food. How many in captivity (that are fed pesticide infested fodder) get cancer?

did you read the article? It says elephants have 20 copies of the gene TP53 which is a tumor suppressor gene, whereas humans have only two copies of this gene (one from each parent) both of which must be functional for this gene to function effectively.

You should read the article fully. The data was collected from the 600+ elephants died in various Zoos and captivity - which maintained death and cause records for the elephants. The number was only 3% and they added all unknown causes of death to cancer deaths - hence, 4%.
So if you take forest elephants into account, the number is likely to be much smaller.

Yeah, I didn't read it :-). I think they chose a wrong parameter. If they examined mental health, physical strength, reproductive behavior, growth curves, etc., and compare with those of forest dwelling elephants, they will come up with clearly significant differences.
