Forcing shops to close by 11pm alone would not curb the crime rates in the city, he added. He believed that keeping them open throughout the night would actually help deter criminals.

"If a woman passenger is alone at the bus stand during night hours, she would feel more secure if a few shops are open and there is some human movement instead of darkness and isolation," he said.
