Re: Imran Khan delivers the Tiger Pataudi Memorial lecture
Who cares what Imran Khan says about anything?
The so called Tiger Patuadi was an unethical and a dishonest man.
He used to hunt young deer which were hardly a few months old.
That is a no no among hunters who follow the standard code of ethics.
He was arrested for poaching young deer but got off by exploiting the corrupt Indian judicial system.
It is ironic that the decendant of an Afghan warlord who became a nawab is worshipped by slavish hindus.
Why is that Muslims have no compassion for animals?

i agree that what Pataudi did, with respect to hunting the young deers, was wrong. but that does not take away the fact that he proved to be a great test batsman even against fast bowlers--and that too with one eye. Imran Khan talks in his lecture about discussing Pataudi with Ian Chappell and Chappell marvelling at how Pataudi was able to dispose off the australian fast bowler Mackenzie with ease--and all this with only one eye.

i do. because he is pakistan's greatest cricketer and perhaps the most inspiring captain from the subcontinent. he was the precursor to pakistan's subsequent riches in fast bowling. he was also an incredible mentor for so many pakistani cricketers. in his current life he is one of the few sane politicians pakistan has. there is a very slim chance that he could become the PM of pakistan. and if that comes to pass, there is genuine hope for rapprochement with our neighbor.

and you know what i am actually listening to what he has to say now (i hadn't when i wrote the last post). he has some good analysis as to why india is sucking so badly in test cricket right now, much of which many of us who care about test cricket have already said right here.
pretty scathing he is especially about the bowlers. and i agree with all of it.

Prince among players
RAMACHANDRA GUHA, AUTHOR AND THE TELEGRAPH COLUMNIST, PAYS TRIBUTE TO TIGER
When he had two eyes, Tiger Pataudi bid fair to become the next Bradman; with only one he was capable of scoring runs against the best attacks. And whether playing with one eye or two, he remains one of the finest fielders to wear Indian colours.
What kind of sportsman was M.A.K. Pataudi? That question can best be answered by setting him alongside his contemporaries. Think then of a player who was as charismatic as Salim Durani, as brave as Mohinder Amarnath, as independent-minded as Bishan Singh Bedi, and as affable in personal demeanour as G.R. Viswanath. That man was Tiger Pataudi.
