I hate it how the other forum makes you wait for 10 minutes after posting something, before you can post another message. I have been a member there for two days now; why does it still think I am a spambot?

I posted one post there... and then wanted to test delete functionality, so wanted to create another thread, but it asked me to either wait for 1 hour, or verify email address. 15 minutes later, it asked me to wait 1 hour still. Then I forgot.. I had given my email id at registration, let me check if I need to verify anything from my email, although I think I did.

k, my bad.. I think I didn't give the email id, as the field was optional.

If you have to give an email ID to register, then it's not much of an improvement over this forum. Now I don't remember if I gave it my email ID.Tracy Whitney wrote:k, my bad.. I think I didn't give the email id, as the field was optional.

to be honest, I am at a stage when I just need to have discussions e'once in a while. I am willing to help test, and share my comments, but they would just be comments, and not my judgement.....
Will eventually go wherever the rest are going, and that includes sulekha (unless I am weaned off CH in general). If we can put up with sulekha for so many years, we can put up with pretty much e'thing else, and they'd still be better.

The thing that's pissing me off is hte wait time after every post. It is STILL doing that to me.Tracy Whitney wrote:to be honest, I am at a stage when I just need to have discussions e'once in a while. I didn't give any email ID to register. It worked okay for me. May be because I created the forum? It is supposed to stop making you wait after you post a few comments. Not sure how many.

Just created a post, and commented on it... then wanted to comment on your weekend post, it's asking me to wait 7 minutes.. maybe it will get better with time. Testing formatting there next.

The thing I like about your forum is the + / - feature of the tree view. The things I don't like so far are:
- the wait time
- the sparse UI without any visual cues about indenting
- the bare-bones editor without formatting help (I like the editor window here)

got this when posting something else:
You haven't verified your email address; until you do, your submitting privileges will be severely limited. Please try again in an hour or verify your email address. If you'd like an exemption from this rule, please write to the moderators of this reddit.

How do you start a new thread there?

I got the same error!
They basically want you to give them an email address, or your access is restricted. Not much different from here.
I also don't like the fact that you have to jump through hoops to post initially. One of the interesting dynamics of the original CH is the freewheeling nature of creating new IDs and posting right away. That will be gone if we go to reddit.

I am at an impasse. It asks me to wait for an hour before I can post another thread!SomeProfile wrote:I didn't give any email ID to register. It worked okay for me. May be because I created the forum? It is supposed to stop making you wait after you post a few comments. Not sure how many.

We should vote up the comments and posts from new-comers on that forum so that the system will recognize them as humans faster. That way, I hope, they won't have to wait too long to make repeat posts.

That's a temporary solution though. In the long term, I do want newcomers to be able to post without losing interest in the forum. Even on CH, we were quite cool to newcomers and made it hard on them. But at the same time, newcomers were the ones who made the place interesting. So I don't like a system that disadvantages newcomers so much.

True. But I think in the long run, if the forum becomes strong and interesting with a lot of participation, this will become less of a problem. New-comers will be determined to be patient till they can participate. This feature also has the advantage of discouraging new handles cropping up exclusively for quick-hit abuses and trolling.

the thing about that is, On the main page, you don't know if there are new comments posted (unless you are keeping a count)... and in a long nested thread, you can't easily see where the new ones posted...It's easier to track when someone replied to just you, but not when you are revisiting the thread and want to see just the new replies. Please let me know if there's a way to do that, and I could not figure it out.
in this forum, on the main page, the new posts come on top, and there is a red icon indicating that there is a new post that YOU haven't read yet. All new replies always goes at the end of the thread, and the posters can decide how much of the original post they want to keep, but can clearly indicate who they are replying to. This is different from what we have seen, and may need some getting used to.

Yes, that is a definite weakness there. Doofus is more familiar with the other forum and he said there is something called Reddit Enhancement Suite. I was planning on trying it out this weekend. You can check it here: http://reddit.honestbleeps.com/ . It is available for all the browsers except IE.

It is better for a few 3 to 5 people to test out the sites they want to. Once a final site is decided then the "lost people" can move there. It is not a good idea to ask the entire tribe to move site to site everyday to test.
It will kill the interest and left over motivation of a few with each trial.
Send out the scout team and let them report back.
God bless you all children.

I am thinking we can make a decision after today's test.
