<BLOCKQUOTE class="postcontent restore ">:The decision to use Malayalam by all the departments was recommended by the Assembly sub-committee on official language headed by Palode Ravi.
Now from November 1 this year, all the department heads have to prepare the reports in Malayalam.
With the implementation of the new programme, the common man who approach government offices for various needs can now have all the correspondence in Malayalam. In a phased manner, all the information on the government websites will be translated to Malayalam also.
All government communiques will have the the slogan ‘Mother tongue is the official language’, stamped on it.

What a foolish, retrograde step for a tiny state whose economy is so dependent on tourism. It's quite pathetic how each state clings on to its local language, foolishly throwing taxpayer money into silly, unproductive areas.

the only foolish retrograde step is to insist in this day and age that hindi is the national language of india, and to put precious tax revenues in pursuit of the quixotic goal of trying to make that a reality.

One is at a national level. The other is at the state level. Both equally quixotic and fiscally irresponsible.

Neither national nor local interests - only personal agendas

how would govt business whether conducted in hindi or malayalam affect tourism? agree with the douchebaggery involved in wasting taxpayer money on such pet projects

Bus routes, signages and notices get written in the local language, making it extra difficult for tourists to use public transport or make their way around on their own.
And then there is all the bureaucracy we make foreigners jump through. Registration with some local authority, renewal of that registration every few days etc. All associated forms will be in local language, which is stupid.
Something as simple as lodging a police complaint becomes a nightmare. The police can write whatever they like in the FIR as the complaintant's statement (as they very commonly do, trivializing the nature of the complaint to reduce their workload).

Oh if we are talking benefits, pls name one benefit that accrues to a Keralite or to the state as a whole by the enforcement of Malayalam on everyone who enters the state.

Your question is already answered, Kerala government's primary responsibilty is to its residents bot to tourists (everyone who enters the state). Read my prior statement again.

No, my question is on the benefits. How is the citizenry better served by mandating a Malayalam-only regime?
