Ashdoc's movie review----Gangster squad

Its 1949 in Los Angeles.....the second world war is over.....

But those who come home to get some peace and security find out that even at home there are other wars to fight....

For the mob is everready to take over the city , spreading its tentacles like a spider weaves its web....

And leading the mob is gangland boss Mickey Cohen , played with aplomb by Sean Penn.....

His men are beginning to run amok in the city , finishing off anyone
standing in their manifest destiny---which is to ultimately gain control
of the whole state .

And Josh Brolin is the man about town , though in a rather different
way---He is a cop who searches for trouble , especially where women are
being forced into prostitution by Mickey Cohen's men , and
singlehandedly liberates them......

He dares to go against authority , and more importantly against the fears of his own wife that he might be killed in action.

But naturally , he is chosen to lead a gangster squad of policemen---a
squad of cops who are tasked to wreak havoc in the empire of Mickey
Cohen.....but the entire job is to be done without their police badges
or there police identity being known , and there wont be a medal or
awards in the end for a job well done.....

.....In short , a thankless task.....but somebody's got to to the dirty job of cleaning the city....

And the gangster squad is enlisted with more men like him---people who
dont give a damn about money or the risk to their own life....and it
includes Ryan Gosling with Nick Nolte among others.....

And as the gangster squad begins to strike at Mickey Cohen's crime dens , a full scale war erupts between them and the mob.....

We are treated with wholesome doses of machinegun fire , grenades , knife attacks and even fisticuffs....

Bodies fall dead like ninepins as bullets smash into them.....

Blood splashes everywhere and is nicely interspersed with screams and howls of terror.....

Cars are crashed into each other and are overturned in desperate chases....

The battles break out in streets and in casinos and nightclubs ,
disturbing the night and sending common people yelling in fear....

And anyone from his gang who fails to stop the gangster squad is sent to grisly death by Mickey Cohen.....

And what grisly methods !! One man has a hole drilled into his head by a
drilling machine , while another has his body dragged apart by chaining
him between two cars and driving them apart.....

All actionpacked stuff.....

But all the action would be incomplete without the charms of one sultry
woman---Emma Stone , who is the gangland boss's moll but dares to put
her life at risk by sleeping on the side with Ryan Gosling ; yeah ,
she's fallen for him like a ton of bricks.....

So everyone , including a lovely woman like Emma , is playing a deadly
game on the edge of death.....and that everyone includes not only
members of the gangster squad , but also Mickey Cohen who is dancing
with death by inviting the wrath of the Chicago mafia by killing their
people ( yeah ,the man dragged apart by cars was their man )......

And games of death are what ashdoc likes to see on screen.....

May the best win in this game....and may the audience get the
bloodsoaked pleasure of seeing as many men being send to heaven or hell (
whichever they deserve ) by the way of dusty death....

Amen to that....

So wins the game amidst all this mayhem ??

Go watch the movie for that....

Its well worth a watch....

And the sgim forgot to mention, it's more than loosely based on James Elroy's so called LA trilogy and the characters he invented. Other than LA confidential, every other adaptation of Ellroy's works have proven to be major disappointments, this one can't be too different, star cast not withstanding.

i am talking about propagandhi calling my review terrible---as in quality of my writing .

not about my opinion of the film .
