no - just finished 2 episodes.
i got stuck on "downton abbey" (thanks to ashaN here) and watched all 3 seasons of that. i have a soft spot for british period dramas, even if badly done. DA started with much promise but went downhill pretty soon with a rather melodramatic plot line. there is no gratuitous violence or sleaze, and so it was worth watching despite the namby-pamby, soppy direction it took.
after that, i started "house of cards" - finished the american, dumbed down version and am currently watching the british version. will do a compare and contrast of the two versions soon.
shall get back to this after that trilogy.

Re: who said this
I just finished season 1 of the British version. I have to say, I find the American version a lot classier. The British version is more violent and harder to believe. The lead character gets his hands dirtier, and is therefore less credible talking to the camera as he does. I am going to watch the rest of it and post more.bw wrote:after that, i started "house of cards" - finished the american, dumbed down version and am currently watching the british version. will do a compare and contrast of the two versions soon.

the dark acts in both are quite over the top - the ending of brit one especially. apparently, the book had a different ending. a lot of unwanted sentimentality and sleaze in the american one.
i find the characters more authentic in the brit version and more intelligent. but then, maybe that's the reality as well!
kevin spacey doesn't quite have the "gravitas", imo.

An interesting exhibition of the Anglican discomfort with Roman Catholicism.

you watched the christening drama episode?
it seems the anglicans were rather closed minded during the DA times - hope that's changed now?

This post. We should frame it. The links angel did not have a link ready. And admitted to not knowing something! Kudos to bw to come up with a query like that!!

Re: who said this
I think it was Meaning of Life, but not sure. In one of the Monty Python movies, they have a piece comparing the attitudes of Roman Catholics and Anglicans in England. All stereotypes, of course, but interesting comparison still.Hellsangel wrote:bw wrote:Hellsangel wrote:bw wrote:Hellsangel wrote:An interesting exhibition of the Anglican discomfort with Roman Catholicism.

Looks like they are setting the stage for a Utopian classless society with Tom Branson from the working class, Matthew Crowley from the middle class and Robert Crowley from the upper class.

Just tell him Matthew Crawley is dead. I'm sure he can deal with it. I did.
I watched season 2 and 3 only after I read all the spoilers.
