DM - nalamA? i cannot view the youtube video from work. illayaraja concert was decent. had to come half way but hear the second half was not go great. A lot of people did not show up and there were thamizh/telugu language wars and illayaraja got all pissed off with everyone in general and telugus in particular.

Toronto concert had only tamil songs and I guess it led to a decent concert.
Why would you leave a concert?

conflict with another event. who hosted the toronto event? SPB and mano sorta hosted the show here. SPB made fun of chitra and she never got offended. just giving you all the information.

Parthiban, Vivek, Sneha and her husband hosted the event. Vivek was awesome. But Raja was picking on him unnecessarily. Parthiban did a decent job. Sneha and prasanna sucked but they weren't on for too long.

Shocked @ language wars at a concert. Isn't music supposed to be the universal language of mankind?

I see a 'foreign' hand in stirring up unnecessary language wars issue.

Sections of crowd more familiar with the telugu songs cheered loudly and requested the next number to be a telugu song - SPB echoed your sentiment that music is a "universal" language and that people should simmer down. Ilaiyaraja may or may not have been reacting to this spontaneous crowd requests, when he had already planned the whole set ahead of time, when he requested audience to be 'civilized'!

Although it would have added to the drama, there were no fisticuffs in the parking lot between thambi's and thammudu's, contrary to, and disappointingly for the Such-narada's.

that is what SPB said as well. But the audience got pissed if he sang two songs one after the other in one language. it was sorta like SUCH, expect that even with thousands of people, there were less no of nutjobs there :-)
