Modi must first demonstrate secular credentials in Gujarat: Kapil Sibal

NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for his [color:73a6=#0000FF !important]'India first' comment, Union minister Kapil Sibal on Monday said the BJP leader should first "demonstrate" in his state that he was secular before talking about the rest of the country.
"Secularism is a question on mindset. We all want India first. That is our dream. Secularism is a way of life which Modi has no capacity to replace. Let him first demonstrate in [color:73a6=#0000FF !important]Gujarat that he is secular before he talks of India," Sibal said when asked to comment on Modi's remarks.....................................................

>>> Secularism is not a mindset. Secularism literally means the separation of state (Govt. and its institutions) and church (religion and religious laws). If India really wants to become truly secular, the Indian Govt. should immediately get rid of the current separate religious laws for different communities (e.g. the Hindu law for Hindus, Muslim law or Sharia for Muslims, Christian law for Christians and Parsi law for Parsis, etc.) and instead substitute the Uniform Civil Code or UCC (one law for everyone, irrespective of religion, race, caste and gender).
