Ashdoc's movie review---Olympus has fallen
The United States---the most powerful nation on earth.....
Trouble is , when you become more powerful your list of enemies grows longer and deadlier.....
Last time it was Osama Bin Laden and his barbaric horde who launched an attack on the US....
In this movie its the North Koreans....
This starving nation wants its tanks to steamroll over its neighbour
South Korea , but the US army which is on South Korean soil stands in
its way.....
So an outlandish plan is hatched to take over the White house and take
the US President and other important state officials as hostages so that
the US can be blackmailed into removing its army from South Korea....
But as the movie progresses it is revealed that the plan is much more sinister than that.....
So North Korean terrorists actually bring the plan to fruition....
Problem is , at least I thought that the whole operation of an attack by
a small starving nation on a mighty superpower looked too easily
accomplished.....
Is it really so easy to invade the greatest power in the world and rapidly bring it to its knees ?? At least I dont think so....
Anyway , as the plan becomes successful only one man can penetrate the now terrorists' controlled White house.....
Its a situation like the one in which we saw Bruce Willis in the movie
Die hard 1---one good man alone in a building controlled by terrorists ,
using its various passageways to finish them off one by one while their
head honcho holds important people hostage in the main operations
room....
Of course , the stakes in this movie are higher as the plan is to
destroy the United States itself---but the fighting and the efforts of
one man against a bunch of ruthless killers is less convincing and less
entertaining than Die hard 1.....
So is our man successful in eliminating the evil ones ?? For in the end ,
despite of all the display of high tech weaponry in the film , it still
boils down to hand to hand fighting between the hero and the
villain....
Go watch the movie for that.....
This movie tries to remind you of the great action movies of the
eighties and nineties which had top action heroes like Sylvester
Stallone , Arnold Shwarznegger , Jean Claude Van Damm , Bruce Willis
etc---but it does not really match the better ones among those
movies....
Verdict---nothing special ; good for some timepass....

Re: Ashdoc's movie review---Olympus has fallen
Look for take 2, White House Down, later this year with Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum replacing Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler respectively.
