>>>Thanks. We are going to be at a wedding with 2 separate events: a hindu wedding and then a catholic wedding (bride is catholic). So, there is some time in between. Trying to make the most of it.Idéfix wrote:A random list of places I ate and like in recent times..

Re: Manhattan Restaurants
Go to Central Park in the afternoon; Walk around a bit, visit the zoo if the kids are the type, get a chinese artist to do a charcoal portrait...get tired - walk over to The Pierre for high tea, escaping the hustle and bustle of the madding crowds for a cultured Indian five star treatment.
Walk along Fifth avenue from Central Park for say 10 streets; return.
Go to times square late in the night like 10.30 or so. Just mill around. Perhaps get some John's Pizzeria - nothing like Cicero's in bay area but still very decent.
Do a TV show recording like Late Show with David Letterman.
Lose the kids and do some NYC by night - i mean late night.
Absolutely the Met the next day - you can lose yourself in the museum while the wife is itching to do some shopping or other normal things. Kids may be inclined to enjoy or be traitors and side with the wife.
Take the dinner cruise around the city if you have the time.
If you are the hardcore cynic who doesn't want to do the things like normal tourists do and you are the type that enjoys yosemite and camping and trekking and generally the rugged invidualist, then just take the subway and head to the Cloisters. Some good old style Christian meditation might give you peace.

>>>>Central Park is on the agenda already, weather permitting. Strangely, I have never been inside the park ever. High Tea is a good idea as is the Pizzeria. I think I can get a buy-in on both. Shopping is going to happen anyway (grrr- usual ritual in any city we go to:). We need to see if we can work out the logistics on the Letterman show and the Met. The second wedding event is outside the city, an hour or so away. In the meantime, there is a cousin (in law) from NJ who wants us to visit. Trying to get all this coordinated. Gone are the single days of bar hopping on Manhattan with a friend, followed by a stopover at Columbia where a bunch of guys were jamming and this was after a Broadway play and an Italian dinner.
Thanks for all the info.

looking down the nose, the indifference it exudes makes it impersonable - this is after 3.5 and 1.5 years in the upper eastMaxEntropy_Man wrote:i don't like new york. i've tried so many times to try and love the city, but somehow end up hating the time i spend there. somehow it just doesn't work for me. glad i don't live there.

Re: Manhattan Restaurants
On a recent trip, we rented bikes and cycled from Central Park to Battery Park down the west side. I highly recommend it. If you prefer walking, start at the beginning of Broadway in near Trinity Chapel and walk all the way up to the theater district or Columbia.

>>> We will probably do the walking thing. Thanks for the info. Need to plan all this out. We may have a bit of time Sat morning as well, since that event takes place only in the evening.Idéfix wrote:On a recent trip, we rented bikes and cycled from Central Park to Battery Park down the west side. >>>Looks like it has got a bit of a mob connection. I think my kids will get a kick out of that. I also googled for Jack Dempsey's. There is a place by that name, but not the one that figures in The Godfather. Looks like it is coming down to one lunch and two dinners in manahattan. We need to choose and also see which ones need reservations etc.
