According to the NRA, background checks won't prevent all mass shootings. It will make it harder for a crazy person to go on a mass shooting spree, but they will not absolutely make certain that a crazy person can never go on a shooting spree. This is their reason for blocking background check requirements.

This sounds like a great argument for the government to stop bothering itself with driving tests and drivers licenses. Those tests and license requirements do not prevent all traffic accidents. Thousands of people still die from road accidents. Why bother with driving tests, although we know that they make it less likely that incompetent people behind the wheel will kill other people? If the tests can't stop EVERY accident, then that is a good reason to not do any testing at all!
