There are many metrics one can use to answer this question, and the results would differ by each. If you judge by the number of people who respond to threads started by each poster, the following people have kept this forum alive:
1. VB: far and away the leader. Most of the content she posts is original too, which makes it all the more impressive.
2. Rishi: distinct second, although behind VB because most of his posts are news stories.
3. Rashmun: usually the same set of respondents, but a leader in terms of number of responses generated on his threads.

The rest are all away behind.

Of course, this is purely my personal opinion as just another poster. And I don't intend it as a measure of the value that individual posters bring to this forum. The way I see, each of us brings some distinct value to the forum with our distinct interests, opinions, biases, and senses of humor.

Agree. I may easily slip out of here and no one may notice. So, nice to quote me as one of the 'pillars', but most of my content is the silly stuff most of you don't even read.

you are an athi radha. i am just a part timer.

people say a man's personality is shaped by his wife. I say actually his real personality is shaped (and shown in his place) by his teenagers. More precisely, teenage daughters. Max has a thing coming to him...and I can see it clearly. My advance condolences to him.

Max,
Check the above link for more on athi radha. In my book it means a heavy hitter.

To others,
No need to bring in family into these discussions.

atcg,

The Senate seems stuffy and the Senators are stuck up!

The State Legistatures are full of drama all the time!

So, thanks a lot for putting me in the Congress HR! Now that is far more fun..And the list above looks like fun company! Please, can I be Madam Speaker with the big gavel:D?..I can use it when Garam and HA get into it..or Rishi seeks endless opinions on everything etc. I would also like you, Captain Vinod, Sasthi Nila and others to join us and make Congress more colorful and delightful!

TBT,

Appreciate you capitalizing the "M" in my name..am not a language Nazi..but, it's good to do that for names, imo.

And..I certainly am not a pillar or can't take any credit for keeping this forum alive..and the credit goes to the Creator and the Charter members..I am a guest and *for me..I can go to zillion sites if I want to learn something, argue about something, listen to something. The ONLY REASON I come here is because of the fondness for some on line friends/acquaintances, I have known for years- who are occ (!) witty and interesting, but, *always kind to me! That includes you too.

Ide, ( or whatever your handle name is)
When i posted this question it was an idle saturday post without much thought behind it.
once others responded i held back to allow the natural reactions to express themselves.

Here is my reasoning: my questions were - who generates the discussions? Whose topics draw most posters?
My observation is that most of the posters feel comfortable to respond to the threads started by rishi or vb. Most posters also continue conversations following vb or uppili comments. Rishi poses those questions that cannot be left unanswered. They seem to express themselves fearlessly even though they will be hounded later by other posters.
their posts seem to take the threads in different directions.
stats may or may not support this opinion but i am sticking to my story.

i never fail to read the english posts (all of them and all in their entirety) made by the following posters regardless of the topic being discussed or the length of their posts. i like the content, humor, wisdom, writing style, flair of language or entertainment value in them.

philip kuruvilla, propagandhi711, merlot daruwala, huzeka kapasi, bittusingh, doofus maximus, kris, bw, i'menta.

so, that's what keeps this site alive for me.

No, no, there's no need for modesty here, sir. The title of the least self-censoring poster rightfully belongs to you. Every post of yours abounds with words in their hundreds, gushing forth with joyous abandon, unfettered by need nor relevance. Truly, you are a liberating hero to those oppressed masses of imprisoned words. who keeps this site alive? 459784477

Merlot,
Facts be damned. You are always right.
Looks like tbt got to you really deep. You could not fail to think about him during day, before you go to sleep, during sleep and you wake up with his thoughts. You are so full of tbt thoughts you will find a way to mention his name at least once in every other post.
Tbt tries to respond but he is no match to your obsessed midnight watch.
now let me get to work to earn a buck so that i can buy a merlot to enjoy the circus.
