The chat application at SuCHat will be down this afternoon for maintenance. The software is an older version and needs to be upgraded to provide better protection against spambot auto registrations.

SuCHat is back in service now. All users need to recreate their IDs once.

I have finally found a way to disable automatic signups by spambots. The earlier system used to get 20-30 "new" users signed up every hour. This was slowing down the chat quite a bit. The new system prevents those spambots from succeeded in their antics. I am sorry about the disruption of having to create your ID again. As before, you don't need to put in a valid email address, just one that looks like an email address.

With these changes, chat should be stay faster without my periodic interventions, while you have no loss of functionality.

Please let me know if you notice any other issues with chat.

i just signed up and it looks good -- actually better. but there is a small glitch -- logging out logs you back in.
