in response to carvaka's posts on ch, sandy gaaru responded thusly. it seems to have come from another brick's keyboard, I had to doublecheck:

"
For infrequent posters: fashion secular garibi-hatao-ing on 1 day ago
I couldn't respond to Mr "Team Sulekha" avatar. So, decided to post here. Hi Mr Team Sulekha, You seem to be much more efficient and brilliant than Manmohan Singh. It is time that MT replaced MMS by you so that you can start fashion secular garibi-hatao-ing and fashion secular anti-corruption-ing and black-money unearth-ing. Did K'nidhi, Kanimozhi, Dayanidhi, Raja, Kalmadi and Chavan join the new CH?

Poor guruvu-gaaru! You can imagine what happens to Suryakantham when her daughter-in-law convinces the former's only son to leave the joint family and set up a separate house for the couple and kids. In the better movies, she comes to her senses at the end of the movie, and goes and visits her daughter-in-law in her new home. But the catalyst for that usually is a tight slap from her long-suffering husband. I don't know who can fill that role in this saga.

No, I was just kidding. Suryakantham is the name of a senior actress who used to play bitchy mother-in-law roles in old Telugu films. A few years ago, Sandilya would refuse to directly talk to his enemies. Instead he would respond to his friends, and in those posts respond to the points his enemies made. This was a classic Suryakantham tactic... "hey, tell A that B happened" she will say to C, even as A is within earshot. So Propa named her Suryakantham, and the rest if CHistory.

ROFL...Dunno about Suryakantham but I've seen old B&W Kannada movies with similar endings. There was a Sowkar Janaki who used to essay these harridan MIL roles.

Awesome idea. All you need is a newspaper article from the 1990-2003 timeframe, and you will be good to go.

There is a lot of synthesis in the movie field even today. People move where opportunities present themselves. See Rajnikanth, a Maharashtrian from Karnataka idolized by Tamilnadu.

Sowkar Janaki and her sister Krishnakumari are both of kannadigas (their ancestors moved to AP long time ago). They spoke Kannada at home. Another famous Telugu actress Jamuna is of Marathi/Kannada lineage (by her time the family spoke only Telugu). Sowkar Janaki wrote about her Kannada lineage in a sort of autobiography.
The sisters did not act much in Kannada, however, They acted mostly in Telugu and Tamil.
