/*****A stupid comment from a desi which I have copied and pasted below. What is the desi trying to prove? ***/
I
am an Indian woman married to a Caucasian American. My husband has
toiled away raising funds for non-profit organizations that fight to end
hunger and violence against women and children having graduated from
Cornell University with an MBA. I myself am an author of a book on
violence against Asian immigrant women primarily from South Asia.
I
have volunteered for Green Peace, in food banks, as well as a home for
senior citizens and also in my husband's organization that fights
violence against women and children. Our children were raised to
volunteer for these causes from 1st grade onward. We were also very
active in the Unitarian church by serving on the social justice
committee.
The spirit of voluntarism is a good way to serve
America. Indians such as Gupta and Rajratnam have lost their soul. Rich
Indians or for that matter Americans do not have the time of the day for
us.
Also I subscribe to a philosophy of voluntarism that is not
ethnically-bound. I am not sure if the experience of prejudice deters
people from venturing outside their ethnic comfort zones--but
voluntarism ought not to know boundaries and in fact doesn't. Maybe it
is time for "successful Indians"--the ones who graduate from I.I.T etc.
to do some soulsearching and engage in serving diverse communities
across America. There are probably other Indians who feel like I do--but
their voices never get heard.

i don't know why indians find an innate need to lecture other indians about propriety in conducting their professional and private lives whenever public scandals like this break out. we are no more or no less vulnerable to temptations as any other people. i didn't see jewish people lecturing other jewish people in the wake of the madoff scandal. it's irritating.

my 2 cents: indian community is relatively young and has not reached the critical mass like others... for voicing opinions, public media, with the relatively easy and free access has become the surrogate for synagogues, wrf to your citation, i should think

/*******A stupid comment by an IITian ****/
Well
written but sad piece. Being a fellow grad from IIT Delhi at the same
time, I believe he was driven, like many of us, to success, and perhaps
like a much smaller fraction, to achieve at all costs. This was and
continues to be a feeling among these exclusive graduates a sense they
were the chosen ones. What the curriculum lacked was a deeper knowledge
and sense of ethics, how in a position of authority the temptation to
abuse must be reined in. In America, to where many of us migrated
because of lack of jobs in the early 70s, we were reminded again and
again that for all its faults it remains a nation of laws and, yes, it
is applied equally.
"Sense of ethics"? Do you need an ethics professor to tell you that what Rajat did was wrong????
What is the problem with you people? Do you also need someone to tell you that having sex with your mother is wrong???
