she really is very very sweet natured. she's settling down nicely. she was timid when she came home, almost trembling and now she is confident and prancing about. learning simple things like sitting, going for walks etc. potty training has been a challenge although we are making good progress on that front too. i thought she was impeccable yesterday and today things regressed a bit, but it has been only four days. it's two steps forward, one step back. can't expect more from such a little thing. i am taking some time off to settle her in. so it's pretty much all day in each other's company and we are learning to communicate with each other. i do plan to post pics.
initially i thought putting her inside a confined space at night (the crate) is a terrible thing to do, but she loves it and gets inside happily. i suppose it gives her a den like feeling. she promptly wakes me up at a quarter to five to take her out to do her business. it's like clockwork.

this foul weather with the incessant rains isn't helping things either.

Re: MAX
Whatever - don’t make her feel that the crate is her home. Some dogs are forced to think that and they don't consider the other area of the house as their home. Why? This will keep the entire home of her clean rather than her crate.
Those who complain that the dogs mess up the living room are those dogs that were never given an opportunity to feel the LR as part of their home

i'm learning so much about dog psychology even in this short four days, that i can bat this one away rather quickly. dogs nearly never want to soil their crates. it's the one place they want to keep very clean because they have a sense of ownership that it is their den. amazingly my puppy hasn't done any soiling inside her crate! i have read horror stories about howling through the night because they don't want to be confined, but i haven't heard a peep from my pup other than when she wants to be let out in the morning to do her thing. i am truly amazed! and this morning she came out tail wagging and leaping at me to lick my face when i picked her up to take her out. the incidents of soiling have been when she is unconfined or in her play pen.

Re: MAX
What's her name and who chose it? Like I said, you bring home a puppy and she brings home love. Glad to know she is learning, and you are teaching. Like the Dog Whisperer, Caesar Millan, says: "Dogs need 3 things: Excercise, discipline and love ... in that order". Congrats!MaxEntropy_Man wrote:goodcitizn wrote:How was the weekend with the new puppy? What is her name? Any problems?

Hahahaha..... there is no need.... (my predictions are based on the most accurate astrological factors).
Anything loveable comes with a cost price, effort and time. As one gets older, the responsibilities and problems increase rapidly. That being the case, a dog - with all the advantages -adds another dimension. MAX will be hooked an attached so much, and the kids will get over the DOG very soon - that is how teenagers are - and wifey will find a 100 reasons to avoid the issues and it will become a Max-owned Dog.
Well the fun part is the initial 6 months to 1 year... so poor guy - he better enjoy the new environment.
