Using Mr. Suliman’s nuanced turn as ballast — this is what a lonely heart looks like as it shatters — Mr. Doueiri creates a foundation of realism that makes an increasingly meaningful contrast with Amin’s idealized memories of Siham. Seen in flashbacks that will come to haunt this story, she comes across as a woman who at once was a sensual lover, a beautiful bride and a smiling wife, as well as a mystery — if only to her carelessly loving husband.

It was refreshing to see it in an artsy and storied New York cinema where the idea of commercials pre-movie are genuine Italian imports, hip Apple ads with no visuals but just text etc. The whole movie is in Arabic and Hebrew and sometimes viewers like us had to speed-read the subtitles. A nice view into contemporary life in Tel Aviv and the territories like Nablus.

It was a great introduction to the psychology of terrorism in preparation for a quasi-summer internship in research support supplementing reading Bruce Hoffman's Inside Terrorism.
