The question is why Mr. Abdul Kalam decided to go ahead and launch the rocket even though the computer told him not to?
Would he have made the same decision if it was a manned spacecraft? It would have been a disaster similar to what happened to the launch of the space shuttle challenger.

As Nixon said (may not be originally by him?),
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

I think he clarified why he took that decision. He believed that there was enough fuel to have the satellite be launched in the orbit, but his guess proved to be wrong.
Satish Dhavan seems to be as some remarkable personality (I love APJ too)

In double quotes, as this is my daily horoscope today, on igoogle:
"All actions have consequences. All decisions have advantages and disadvantages. If we don't stop and think before we implement a plan, we may end up kicking ourselves later. Yet if we stop and think too long, we may take no action at all and that may prove most regrettable. Normally, you find it easy to be brave. You are good at acting on impulse and you usually find that you had good reason to trust and follow your intuition. Recent events have eroded your confidence to the point where you are hesitant. Ignore that doubt. "
