H-M synthesis: Hindu Literature blossomed during Mughal Rule
The major hindu religious work RamCharitManas was composed by Goswami Tulsidas during the rule of the mughal emperor Akbar. Clearly Tulsidas felt secure enough to compose a major religious work in hinduism even though the king of the times was a muslim. Further, the work is in Awadhi which is a hindi dialect. Literary Awadhi came into its own with the writings of Malik Mohamad Jayasi who was a predecessor of Tulsidas. All this shows that the muslims were composing works in native languages in NI, and not just their languages. Further, the fact that major hindu religious writings were composed during mughal rule (for instance, besides Tulsidas the hindu religious writings of Soordas, Keshavdas, Raskhan, Rahim, etc.) and the fact that these were composed by both hindus and muslims tells its own story. There is no hindu poet to my knowledge who has shown more devotion for Lord Krishna than Raskhan and Rahim, the two great muslim poets who wrote in hindi (actually Braja--a hindi dialect) in praise of their beloved hindu God.

The above is a partial rebuttal of JM's recent post in which he writes:
the northindian hindu's - observe bagchi and others here - culture, literature, and art are legacies of the muslims who ruled india.

JM seems to think that hindu culture in NI was Islamised, while i contend that Islam in NI was hinduised. This is actually very evident when we consider the fact that things like kabr pooja and mazhaar pooja are rituals which are not done in Islam's land of birth. But they are done all over India, including NI. What does this show? It shows the hinduisation of Islam in India.

Worshipping a tomb or shrine in Islam's land of birth can quickly get you into serious trouble. The reason is that according to the muslim orthodoxy one should pray directly to God(Allah). But in Indian Islam it is permissible to pray to God through a person bestowed with great spiritual power who are the sufi saints. Flowers, garlands, etc. are offered at the shrines and tombs of sufi saints and both hindus and muslims pray at these shrines and tombs. These shrines and tombs are dotted all over India, perhaps more in NI than SI. This is surely a unique religious tradition in which members of two different religions pray at the same place. It should also be mentioned that the sufi saints talk of one God with different names and in their songs they sing in praise of Rama, Krishna, etc. The sufi saints seem to be no different from hindu saints. All this again shows the hinduisation of Islam and not the Islamisation of hinduism or hindu culture in NI as JM seems to believe.
