President Abdul Kalam not Allowed to Speak in Tamil at New Delhi Press Conference
Here is a telling incident. Soon after he was elected the president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (a Tamil) was about to say a few words in Tamil at a press conference at the request of some one there. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan (a Hindian) jumped in and said, “He is the president of India. He cannot speak in Tamil.” (The Telegraph, January 10, 2010).

Prime Minister Vajpayee had his "most unforgettable" moment giving a full speech in Hindi at the United Nations in New York. Can't President Abdul Kalam have a few moments of happiness saying just a few words in his mother tongue Tamil at a press conference in New Delhi? Is the pride in one's language reserved for Hindians only?
