Indian Docs jailed Empty Indian Docs jailed

Dr. Rakesh Anand, 57, and his wife Meena Anand, 53, both of whom owned and managed Doctors Weight Loss Clinics in Indiana and Illinois, were also ordered on Friday to pay $745,872 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service from the $5.2 million that was seized from them.

Why ???? The "docs" can live happily ever after with the $4.5 mils after ruining the lives of many.

Street peddlers do a much better job bcz they also sell "pain pills" "weight pills" and "Psych pills" in addition to these.

 Just curious.

Imagine the following scenario.

The IRS tells the desi doctor "you owe us some money", the guy apologizes, blames it on his CPA and immediately writes a check for whatever they amount due.

Would he have avoided prosecution?

The income-tax angle is always a fall-back position. Bcz practically ANYONE and EVERYONE can be found to be in violation of some sort even if it is $10. That is good enough to send him to jail.. With that in hand, the investigators start building a real case.

so the real case is the medical malpractice.
