I don't understand this. If you pay without getting the bartender's attention, how would he/she know that you paid?

Their db gets updated and tab closes automatically.

Yeah. Usually they start the tab by taking your credit card and swiping it. And when you are ready to close it, they return your card. Some places they swipe your card and return it to you and the system holds the card number against your tab. When you want to close the tab, you ask the bartender who brings you the credit card receipt to sign. This app eliminates the step of having to give the bartender your credit card and of having to sign at the end. They possibly just scan the bar code from the app. And you can close the tab from your phone. Have you used the Starbucks app to pay for your coffee through your phone?
