1. Online debating is of two kinds: constructive and destructive
2. In constructive debating you learn from one another, sometimes you yield, sometimes the other person does so. The objective is simply the pursuit of truth. Usually some kind of consensus will emerge through this kind of discussion. The sanskrit word for this is vada.
3. In destructive debating, the objective is to destroy the thesis (main idea) of the interlocutor and put forward your own thesis. Alternatively it can also take the form of simply destroying the thesis of the interlocutor without putting forward your own thesis. The sanskrit word for this type of debating is vitanda.
